Using MOLDCARE is helpful for improving localization of pediatric tumors
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
MOLDCARE is used during pediatric radiation therapy to provide the comfortable immobilization needed to ensure set up reproducibility and accurate treatment delivery.
The study below was presented in ESTRO 2022. In this study, MOLDCARE (BR 3, 60cm x 60cm) is used with a stereotactic system for pediatric immobilization (SSPI).
Refinement of treatment setup accuracy using stereotactic system for paediatric immobilization
(Santiago Velázquez, José Luis León García, Felipe Arturo Derecho Torres, D.Muñoz, F.J. Luis Unidad de Oncología Integral Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío santiago. Velazquez, sspa)
The main purpose of this study was to investigate if stereotactic system for pediatric immobilization (SSPI) can decrease setup deviations.
Using MOLDCARE (BR 3, 60cm x 60cm) and SSPI significantly improves localization of pediatric tumors in comparison to classic setup of skin/cradle marks.
This reduction in the setup margin treated with SSPI could also have significant clinical implications for second malignancies and acute and late radiation induced toxicities.
